2011-03-12T14:43:37-0800 Gerald Webb is a DJ turned actor. He has an impressive IMDb resume starring in everything from NBC's Law and Order: Los Angeles to tonight's premiere of Battle of Los Angeles on Syfy (not that other movie in theaters). He has lots of cool projects in the works and it looks like we'll be seeing many or all of them on Syfy or on DVD soon. Check out my latest "Versus" with the very cool Gerald Webb and be sure to tune in tonight to watch The Asylum's Battle of Los Angeles. Check out the final q and a on here because there will be a DVD given away tonight during the movie all thanks to Gerald!

Brian S- First off how'd you get in to acting?
Gerald Webb- I was touring as a DJ with Jam Master Jay (RIP) of Run DMC and he asked me to audition for a show pilot about a nightclub. One of the main characters was a DJ and they wanted to find a real DJ to play the role. This opportunity immediately struck the right note for me. I ended up booking a role on that pilot and started seriously pursuing acting from there. It was a really natural fit for me. I was always performing on some level or stage my entire life and this was the catalyst for me to really embrace my inner artist. It’s has been a wild ride but has definitely been worth it. The lesson I learned is ALWAYS follow YOUR dreams. They resonate deep inside you and the sooner you listen the sooner you’ll find happiness.
Brian S- You're in The Asylum's Battle of Los Angeles, tell me about this film and your character.
Gerald Webb- It was great to work on another Asylum film. This one is explosive, literally!!! The action is non-stop and it’s one heck of a crazy ride. It stars the beautiful Nia Peeples, Kel Mitchcell, and I’m running around with them of course. I play Air Force reservist 2nd Lt. Jeffery Newman or Newman for short. He joined the reserves to pay for his education and to have some fun flying jets. Newman is a cool but no nonsense guy that like most people is just trying to survive. In this case he’s trying to survive a devastating alien attack on Los Angeles that leaves the city in ruins and humanity’s hopes just about dashed in the rubble. Newman and his crew find out that this isn’t the first time the aliens have been to earth and that there is only one way to stop them. They team up with a shadow government agency and set out to save the world as we know it. I could tell you more but then I’d have to destroy you with stolen alien technology. You’ll have to tune into Syfy or grab the DVD or Blu-ray disc to see for yourself.
Brian S- How's it feel to be in a cool movie like this airing on Syfy?
Gerald Webb- I’ve been fortunate to be in several movies that have aired on Syfy. I guess it’s like my TV home. It’s a great feeling to know your film is world premiering on a Saturday night on Syfy! Plus, this movie is so full of action it was literally a dream come true to get my action hero on! The really cool part is how my family and friends get excited and can’t wait to see it. Being able to share my work, on such a big platform, with my family, friends, fans and the world is definitely the most satisfying part. I’m hosting a drive-in style (outside and projected on a 10 foot wall) screening of the premier of Battle of Los Angeles for the cast, crew and some select friends. I think I’m more excited about it than they are and I’ve already seen the movie.
Brian S- Are you a sci-fi fan?
Gerald Webb- What guy isn’t? When I was a kid I loved karate movies and sci-fi movies and that was bout it. I should probably write a movie called Aliens from Shaolin because I know the two genres so well. I see all the big sci-fi movies and a bunch of the small ones. I have loved the sci-fi genre forever from Star Trek: TNG, DS9, Voyager, the original Star Wars trilogy, Buck Rogers, and Dune to the old Transformer and Thundercat cartoons. It great to see all of the old cartoons coming to the big screen as blockbuster movies. I just watched the last episode of Stargate Universe off of my DVR last night, so yeah I kinda like the genre ;)
Brian S- You do some DJing too, tell our readers a little about your DJing gig.
Gerald Webb- The DJing world was good to me. I was fortunate to travel all over and all over the country under my DJ moniker of DJ Gerald “World Wide” Webb for 10 plus years. I love DJing and still do it fairly regularly. I was a big mash-up guy before they were known as mash-ups and used to create them live using the original records. If you go on my IMDB page (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2230938/) there are links to a bunch of articles about my djing in the publicity section. Here’s my old DJ bio: http://www.digitalscratch.com/ds/djwww.html
Brian S- What kind of hobbies do you have?
Gerald Webb- I love my work as an actor and though it is my profession I still count it among my fun things to do. The sad news is I just ruptured my Achilles tendon two weeks ago so some of my hobbies like working out, playing basketball, mountain biking and playing in an adult, co-ed kickball league are on hold for a while. So now I’m enjoying catching up on some movies, television, playing Words with Friends, Mario Kart on Wii (I’m answering these questions between online races with my neighbor Chuck) and hanging out with my friends. I’m a technology guru though that’s just a nice way of calling myself a nerd so I’m always tinkering with some gadget, building a computer or McGuyvering something. I’m actually amazed at how our phones dominate our culture now. I’m always on my Sprint Evo tinkering with Android apps. We literally have personal Star Trek tri-corders in our pockets.
Brian S- What other projects do you have in the works?
Gerald Webb- I’m a recurring LAPD uniformed sergeant on NBC’s Law and Order: Los Angeles. Almighty Thor starring Richard Greico and Patricia Valasquez is headed to Syfy in May. I have a small cameo appearance in the film and was the dialogue (acting) coach for newcomer Cody Deal who plays Thor. 2012 Ice Age is also an Asylum film I make an appearance in and should be out this summer it stars Patrick Labyorteaux (Jag) and Julie McCullough (Growing Pains). I’m producing and playing the lead in a film with Christopher Olen Ray (director of Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus and Almighty Thor) called Shadow of a Doubt. I’m co-writing the next sci-fi giant monster sensation.
Brian S- Can Supershark really walk on land and fly?
Gerald Webb- Did you watch the trailer? Did you see it? Then yes, yes it can!! They also have a pimp slapping tank in that movie! It was a lot of fun to work with producer/director Fred Olen Ray again on Super Shark. Fred and I have worked together several times and he actually cast me in Sea Snakes a few years back, my first movie to air on Syfy. Plus Super Shark had Jimmy “JJ” Walker and Jon “Bo Duke” Schneider in it. I loved those guys shows growing up!!
Brian S- Dude, you was in Megashark Versus Crocasaurus! We might have to put you in my Crocaloctopus movie if it ever gets made since you know how to battle these crazy creatures!
Gerald Webb- I’ve battled snakes, a crocsasaurus, super sharks, mega sharks, a fake as pirate, a reptisaurus, and Thor and lived to tell the story, BRING IT ON!!!!
Brian S- Tell everyone where they can find you on the net.
