Joseph Gordon-Levitt not Playing Alberto Falcone in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES After All?

This weekend it was reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be playing Alberto Falcone, son of Gotham City mob boss Carmine Falcone in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. It seems like this might not be the case anymore. It's up to you to decide which report is true, and which one is false.

Here's the report from Variety from this weekend:

Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to reteam with his “Inception” director Christopher Nolan on “The Dark Knight Rises,” insiders tell Variety that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in “Batman Begins.”

Now here's the new report from Entertainment Weekly:

A source close to the situation says that recent reports that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer) — the son of former mob kingpin, Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) — are incorrect. So, Batman fans: Begin the re-speculation now!

So we've got two different inside sources saying different things which pretty much cancels this news out. However, I like the idea of Gordon-Levitt playing Falcone so much that I hope the news is true. For all we know Entertainment Weekly was fed the follow-up news to throw everyone off base. The reveal of the character wasn't supposed to happen, so this could be PR damage control. They dismiss it very quick. Both sources can't be right. What do you all think?
