Guillermo Del Toro's AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS Starts Shooting in June with Tom Cruise!

Hey gang! It looks like Guillermo del Toro's next film horror thriller At the Mountains of Madness has received a green light! Producer Don Murphy recently gave an interview in which he revealed that the movie is supposed to start shooting in June, and that Tom Cruise is set to star as previously rumored. Apparently the script that was written is "very close" to the H.P. Lovecraft novel that the film is based off of.

I think Cruise will end up doing a great job in the film. I'm just excited to see what Del Toro has planned for us! This is a great story, Del Toro's a great director, and James Cameron is also on board as a producer to help bring the 3D film to life.

The story is written in first-person perspective by the geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.

If Del Toro got his way, and it sounds like he did, then this is going to be an epic dark big-budget hardcore R-rated film of madness! I can't wait!

ILM's Dennis Muren is designing the monsters for the movie! This is the same guy would worked on creating visual and creature effects for films such as the Star Wars Trilogy, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Terminator 2: Judgment Day andJurassic Park. So this guy is the real deal, would Del Toro settle for anything less? Muren told Del Toro that "you’ve never seen monsters like this.”  Thats what I like to hear! I would love to see some awesome and original monsters!

Del Toro say's that if the film doesn't get the right budget and the support he is looking for, then he wouldn't make the movie. "if we don't get the right money, if we don't get the right support, I won't do it... it's a movie that's been with me for thirteen years. It's been with me as a fan since I read it as a kid. It's one of those seminal books." The guy wants to make this film right, and he wants to do it his with no no interference from the studio. The movie still has yet to get the green light, but he's not taking any other projects right now. He is putting a lot of his focus on making At The Mountain of Madness happen. There are two issues right now for the studio that they are nervous about. It’s a hard core R rated movie and it’s a horror tentpole movie with a big budget. I can see the studio being a little nervous about this, this is a genre film with a limited audience, as awesome as this movie will be if it gets made, there's a chance it could bomb at the box-office.
