TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY invited to Venice Film Festival, Fall release expected

Tomas Alfredson's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy has been invited to open the Venice Film Festival. The movie is based on a novel by John Le Carré with a script adapted by Peter Morgan. The story follows a retired intelligence agent named George Smiley (Gary Oldman) whose been called back to serve when a high-ranking member of MI6 is suspected of being a Soviet mole. It looks like the film will be a period piece.

The films producer Doug Urbanski revealed the news in an interview with RBR (via The Playlist). At one time, the film was thought to be a possibility for this years Cannes, but those were just rumors. Post-production is currently going on and a decision will be announced soon if it will premiere at Venice. It will definitely be part of the Toronto Film Festival this year.

The cast also includes Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, Toby Jones and John Hurt. Urbanski also announced that Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy's release day by saying"we’ll be releasing in the U.K. probably in September. Then we’ll probably release in America in October or November."

This film has been getting a lot of Oscar Buzz already. I am super excited for a cool period spy film. Alfredson did an amazing job with Let The Right One In and I am interested in seeing his take on the film.
