Stolen Script for THE AVENGERS Up For Bid Among Bloggers

What a crazy blogging world we live in. Just this weekend we received an e-mail from an anonymous person saying he/she came into possession of stole an advanced copy of a script called "Group Hug" which turns out is another working title for Marvel's highly anticipated film The Avengers. As you can see the script was written by Joss Whedon. The e-mail went on to say,

It is a pink draft of the shooting script dated 04/08/11. The pages bear the Marvel Studios letterhead and all 129 pages are watermarked with one of the starring actor's name. Also included is a personal note from writer/director Joss Whedon.

If this is something that you would like to procure, contact me and we can negotiate terms.

Verification can be provided if interested.

Just for the hell of it, and with no intention of buying the script, I asked what kind of negotiation terms he/she was looking for, just to see what the person would say.

Yesterday we received an e-mail response with a couple photos of the script attached to verify authenticity of what they were offering, and it sure does look like the real deal. In fact it's got Samuel L. Jackson's name written all over it, so he somehow let his copy of the script leak out.

The person with the script went on to say in this second e-mail...

I have one hard copy that I am looking to sell and I will not be making any copies, therefore exclusivity is guaranteed.

Considering that the release of The Avengers is over a year away this script should generate a substantial amount of traffic for the website that acquires it. So let the bidding begin...

In my opinion whatever website pays money for this script is a complete tool, and just as dishonest as the person selling it. Unless they buy it to bury it and just keep it for themselves.

So unless Marvel stops this from happening, it looks like the shooting script for The Avengers is about to leak out online, which kind of sucks for Marvel and all the people currently working hard on developing the film. I wouldn't mind seeing a nice synopsis of the story for the film, but I don't want the whole damn movie going experience ruined for me.

I'm a die hard Marvel fan and I don't think I've ever been so excited for a film as I am for The Avengers, I'm sure Joss Whedon is going to give us the awesome Avengers film we are all waiting for.

What do you think about all this? What would you do in this situation? If you would consider buying it, how much would you pay? It will be interesting to see who ends up with it. Who knows though, maybe no one will end up with it. But, if someone does then now you know how they got it. I just hope these other movie bloggers have respect for the work that goes into these movies.

The fact of the matter is, once the script is out there and a review of it is posted online, Marvel and Disney will have their lawyers issue a cease-and-desist letter. Within a few hours the article will have been pulled down anyway.

Here are the photos that were sent to us for verification...
