GEEK DAD coming to the big screen

Movie by

The Gotham Group has partnered with Gaeta/Rosenzweig Films to produce family adventure film Geek Dad. The film is being directed by Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) based on the book by Ken Denmead titled "Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share." Denmead has a second GeekDad book called, "GeekDad's Guide to Weekend Fun" scheduled for release next week, and he's working on a third. Gotham's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and Eric Robinson will produce alongside Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig. GeekDad has been a blog at Wired Magazine for four-years. It focuses "on activities for fathers and their kids such as Lego, Star Trek and Star Wars."

This is the second project annnounced today for Gotham. Earlier we reported that they were developing the new R.L. Stine novel into a feature film. They also produced Abduction with Lionsgate, The Maze Runner and Fox's How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack in development at Sony Pictures Animation. Gaeta/Rosenzweig is equally busy with Fright Night for Dreamworks. They are also producing Transit, starring Jim Caviezel, along with Joel Silver and After Dark. In addition, they have The Reincarnation of Peter Proud at Sony with David Fincher directing and Matadors at Disney with Anne Fletcher set to direct. Freudenthal will direct Brotherhood of Scavengers at Fox and Agnes Quill at Paramount.

Sounds like a neat project. Freudenthal definitely knows how to deal with this genre so he's a great fit for the director. What are your thoughts on this news?
