R.L. Stine's 'It's the First Day of School ... Forever' movie in the works

R.L. Stine's new book, It's the First Day of School ... Forever, is being adapted into a feature film. The books rights were optioned by Gotham Group, and Stine is developing the title for adaptation. The film will be produced by Gotham Group CEO and founder Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson along with longtime Stine collaborator, Yvonne Bernard of Lookout Entertainment and Gemini Girls Productions' Beth Elise Hawk.

Stine is a multimillion-sellling author of Goosebumps, Fear Street and The Haunting Hour. He is one of the biggest names in children's literature, and has been called the Stephen King of children's books. Goosebumps and Haunting Hour have been turned into TV series, with Hour currently airing on Hub. The newest book arrives in stores this July and tells the story of "a 12-year-old Artie, whose second day at his new school is exactly like his first, which just happened to be the worst day of his life. The boy finds himself reliving the same horrible day and must find a way to change his nightmare."The book has been called "a thoroughly reimagined Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Groundhog Day," Gotham's Goldsmith-Vein. A writer will be attached to the project before Gotham takes it to studios. 

Gotham has a number of projects in development. They are producing Abduction with Lionsgate, starring Taylor Lautner. The Maze Runner and Fox's How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack in development at Sony Pictures Animation.
