Anthony Mackie to star in WORLD WAR Z and GANGSTER SQUAD?

The Hurt Locker has been very good to both Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie. Renner is starring in a bunch of cool films (Mission: Impossible, Hansel and Gretel, The Avengers, The Bourne Legacy), and  has started his own production company, which is developing a Steve McQueen biopic. According to Variety, Mackie has received an offer to star opposite Brad Pitt in World War Z for Paramount, and is in consideration for a role alongside Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin in Gangster Squad. Nothing is official at this time, Paramount nor Mackie's reps commented on the news.

World War Z is being directed by Marc Foster based on Max Brooks' book. The story takes place 10 years after a global zombie epidemic and is an oral history told from various perspectives. Gangster Squad is being directed by Ruben Fleischer and produced by Dan Lin. It's a period film based on the Los Angeles Times' seven-part article series "Tales From the Gangster Squad."

Mackie was great in The Adjustment Bureau and will be seen in Real Steel opposite Hugh Jackman. He's just finished the thriller Man on a Ledge opposite Sam Worthington and the Channing Tatum-led high school reunion indie Ten Year. Mackie's currently shooting Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and the indies Night Catches Us and the silent film Bolden!

This is great news for me, Mackie is a great actor. I already want to see both films, but now I am interested more than ever. I really think that Gangster Squad is adding up to be pretty sweet with the great cast. I am happy that World War Z is actually getting made thanks to Skydance's David Ellison.
