TROLL HUNTER to get an American Remake

Movie by Joey Paur

The Norwegian film Troll Hunter hasn’t even been released domestically yet, but it looks like an Americanized remake is on its way.

I had a blast watching Troll Hunter, and one of the main things that made it work and gave it that authentic feel was the fact that it was a Norwegian film. There was talk of a remake early on, but I thought that the idea had faded away into obscurity. I guess not. I just don’t think an Americanized remake will have the same effect.

The director of the film, André Øvredal, revealed to JoBlo that there are currently in the middle of contract negotiations, but that there should be an announcement within several weeks. He’s pretty excited about it, he said,

They have to make the announcement, but I am very proud that these people want to do the remake, I'm very happy about it.

Of course he didn’t reveal who “these people” are, but he went on to talk about his involvement with the remake,

Maybe. I've grown to know them a little bit so sure, whatever, I'll be an advisor on it of some kind."

He also said that the "mockumentary" angle will stay intact. The director has a few other projects lined up, but he’s thought about making a Troll Hunter 2 which would be cool. One of the projects he is focused on right now is a collaboration with Chris Columbus that is in the same vein of Gremlins.

I thought Troll Hunter was a very cool movie, and you should definitley check it out when it’s released. It hits On Demand on May 6th and will get a limited theatrical release on June 10th. What are your thoughts on this remake news?
