Ben Stiller in talks to star in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY remake

Movie Ben Stiller by

Ben Stiller is in talks to star in the remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for 20th Century Fox. Deadline reports that Stiller plans to make this long gestating project his next film. It is a remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye film based on the James Thurber short story first published in The New Yorker in 1939. There have been a number of actors circling the role including, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen. The directors insterested have also included Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Gore Verbinski over the years.

Up until now, the script was not at the right place. That's until Stiller became attracted to Steve Conrad's script. Conrad scripted Will Smith's The Pursuit of Happyness. This film could be another strong comedy franchise for Stiller who's had success with Night at the MuseumandMeet the Parents. He will next be seen on stage on April 25 opening of The House of Blue Leaves, starring with Edie Falco and Jennifer Jason Leigh in the David Cromer-directed revival revival of the John Guare comedy that Scott Rudin is producing.

Fox is aiming for a late fall start and will begin looking for a director now that Stiller is interested in starring. I have never seen the original, but I generally like Stiller. What are your thoughts on this news?
