Chris Hemsworth officially cast in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

Earlier we reported that Chris Hemsworth was the front-runner and now he has officially been cast in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman. He will star opposited Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Sam Claflin as the prince. Rupert Sanders is directing the film, which is said to change the traditonal fairy tale story to focus on the Evil Queen ordering the death of Snow White and the Huntsman decides instead to protect and teach her to fight back.

The success of Thor this past weekend with $66m at the box-office had to have helped solidify the deal. Before being cast as Thor, Hemsworth had only had supporting roles in Star Trek and a brief role in A Perfect Getaway. He also starred in the remake to Red Dawn and Cabin in the Woods, which are both awaiting distribution. I am hopeful that those deals will get inked over the week at Cannes.

There have been a number of actors in contention for the role including, Tom Hardy, Johnny Depp, Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen, Hugh Jackman and Joel Edgerton. Hemsworth is the youngest of the bunch, which could add a romantic aspect to the film (especially since they spend a good portion of the movie chained together),

Hemsworth continues to be transformed into a leading man. I think he is a solid actor and will be a great addition to this cast. What are your thoughts on this news?
