Rachel Weisz cast as Evil Witch in OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Rachel Weisz in in talks to play the Evil Witch in Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful. The Oscar-winning actress would star opposite James Franco and Mila Kunis in Sam Raimi's prequel-ish take on The Wizard of Oz. Franco is set to play Oz, "a snake oil salesman who finds himself dealing with real magic when his balloon carries him into a fabled land and he runs into genuine witches." Weisz's character is Evanora, "a powerful and evil witch who intends to rule the land. She is the sister of Theadora (Kunis) and tries to seduce her to the dark side."

If Weisz joins the cast, it would be a nice change of pace for the actress since she's never worked on a feature film of this scale. She has had a number of great roles including her Oscar-nominated work in The Constant Gardner, Wong Kar Wai’s My Blueberry Nights and The Mummy.

I think that she is a great addition to the cast. Not only is she beautiful, she is a solid actress that will be perfect. I am interested in seeing her in the role of a villain.
