Scott Derrickson to Direct new Low Budget Horror Film

The director of The Day the Earth Stood Still remake Scott Derrickson is currently developing a new untitled low budget horror film with Insidious producer Jason Blum. For those of you who aren't aware Insidious is the most profitable film of the year so far. It only cost $2 million dollars to make, and brought in almost $50 million dollars. It may not seem like a lot, but you have to realize it had a very low budget.

The new film being developed will follow the low-budget horror movie model that has proved to be successful time and time again. You don't need a lot of money to tell a good story, and Insidious was a perfect example of that.

There are no details on the films plot, but it is briefly described as a horror story with a crime at the center. "The goal is to make a movie that puts a clever idea and a vision ahead of pricey stars or splashy effects." Most great films don't need all that stuff. Blum had this to say in a statement,

It's hard to do, but when it works, it's much more effective both on the screen and the bottom line.

Derrickson also directed The Last Exorcism of Emily Rose, which was a mediocre horror film. I still can't wait to see what they have planned for this one.
