Harvard Scientists Create Living Laser

Tech by Mick Joest

"Are you frickin serious?"

Harvard scientist Seok-Hyun Yun and Malte Gather has done what few have thought possible, and even fewer have possibly imagined. Using a human cell, jellyfish protein, and some good ole fashioned elbow grease, the two have managed to create a cell that emits a "weak blue light visible to the naked eye" as stated by Nature.com. Yun toots his own horn below...

"This is the first time that we have used biological materials to build a laser and generate light from something that is living."

The two have suggested medical applications for this discovery such as being able to better analyze the inner workings of cells, and even more scientifically mind-blowing, helping surgeons create lasers inside the body to more effectively hit tissue.

There's a whole lot of other scientific mumbo-jumbasaurus rex that went over my (and yours if you're being honest) head, but check out the source article for more info on the workings of the scientists...also check out the illuminated cell (Hulk Cell) below.
