Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED release date set

Earlier we reported that Jamie Foxx had emerged as the frontrunner for the lead in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and that Leonardo DiCaprio had signed on for the role of Calvin Candie. Variety is reporting that The Weinstein Company has set a release date of Christmas Day 2012 for the film. It looks like Will Smith is no longer interested in starring in the film. This has caused Tarantino to with Foxx, Idris Elba and Chris Tucker, who starred in Jackie Brown.

A December 25, 2012 release date is a good choice for the Weinsteins, because as of now there are no other films slated for that Tuesday. Fox 2000 and Relativity Media are releasing Life of Pi and Hunter Killer, respectively, on Dec. 21. The big holiday opening next year is Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which opens on December 14. The film is being co-financed with Sony Pictures, and they are also handling distribution overseas.

I am very excited for this film and am happy with this release date. I am not sure how I feel about Foxx or Tucker in the film. If Smith can't do it, I hope that they pick Elba. Who would you like to see in this film?
