Steven Spielberg Working on Ideas for JURASSIC PARK 4
It looks like Jurassic Park 4 might actually happen. Apparently, director Steven Spielberg is meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend and a story credit on Thor) to throw around ideas for possible reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise with a fourth film. Spielberg and Protosevich worked together on a remake of Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy, that thankfully never got off the ground.
Spielberg is currently on a dinosaur kick, this whole Jurassic Park thing was probably sparked by the TV series he’s currently producing Terra Nova. Or perhaps it’s the millions and millions and dollars that he and the studio stand to make from it.
At this point nothing is solidly greenlit by Universal Pictures, but it's definitely an option, that in my opinion will eventually happen. I think the studio would be stupid not to do it. I would love to find out what kind of ideas they are coming up with. It cant be any worse than what we’ve heard in the past.
I remember watching the first film, based on the book by the late Michael Crichton, thinking how awesome, and how real looking the dinosaur special effects were. I watched it again recently, and those effects don’t look as good as they used to. I loved the Jurassic Park films, and I think it would be great to see another film in the franchise. I know a lot of people didn’t care for Joe Johnston's Jurassic Park 3, but I actually enjoyed it. Johnston has previously talked about a fourth film saying,
Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it's going to be unlike anything you've seen. It breaks away from the first three—it's essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It's going to be done in a completely different way. That's pretty much all I can tell you.
He was also saying that his idea included a whole new trilogy of films. I doubt Spielberg is using anything from the ideas that Johnston previously had. Sounds like they are going to start from scatch.
It would be cool to see Spielberg direct the film, but I know that wont happen. It looks like he will be involved as much as he can. If he didn't have a good idea for a new film he wouldn't be pushing it forward like he is. Spielberg will next direct the long awaited film Lincoln.
