BEASTS OF BURDEN adaptation finds a writer in Darren Lemke

Earlier we reported that Andrew Adamson was set to direct an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comic Beasts of Burden for Reel FX. THR is now reporting that Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Killer) has been hired to pren the script.

The story is set in "a community called Burden Hill where a series of supernatural events occur, causing a gang of dogs (and one cat) to team up in order to keep their owners and the town’s residents safe." The characters created by Evan Dorkin (Milk & Cheese) and Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother), first appeared in The Dark Horse Book of Hauntings, Witchcraft, the Dead and Monsters. The film is planned as a CG-animated film and Adamson is producing along with his Strange Weather Films partner Aron Warner and Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment. Dark Horse’s Keith Goldberg is executive producing.

Audiences will next see RIPD, from Dark Horse and Universal. The film will star Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. They also have big-screen adaptations of Emily the Strange and Umbrella Academy at Universal. Lemke is known for his work on Shrek Forever After. He recently wrote a script for a project called Turbo, which is in development.
