Here is a casting update for Joe Wright's adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel, Anna Karenina. According to The Daily Mail, Saoirse Ronan, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, Andrea Riseborough, Olivia Williams and Domhnall Gleeson have joined the cast that already includes Keira Knightley and Jude Law. The ensemble drama begins lensing in Russia and the United Kingdom in September.

The film takes place in the aristocratic world of 19th Century Moscow. Knightley plays the title character and wife of Law's elder statesman Alexei Karenin, who is 20 years her senior, while Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) plays her younger lover Count Vronsky. Macfadyen goes from playing Knightley's lover in Pride & Prejudice to her brother Prince Stepan Oblonsky. McDonald will play his wife Dolly. She has most recently been seen in HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

Ronan has worked with Wright before (Atonement and Hanna) is set to play Dolly's sister Kitty. Williams will play Countess Vronskaya, the mother of Johnson's character, while Gleeson, best known as Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise will play Levin, another close acquaintance of the family. Riseborough is set to play Princess Betsy.

Sounds like an amazing cast. I prefer Wright's work on Hanna to this type of film personally. I expect that his adaptation will be sweeping and visually stunning though, so it may be worth checking out. What are your thoughts on this casting news?
