Eminem's SOUTHPAW close to landing Antoine Fuqua as director

Last year we reported on Eminem's boxing movie, Southpaw. This will be the rapper-turned-actor's first film since 8 Mile. It looks like DreamWorks may be close to landing director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) for a fall start date. The script was written by Kurt Sutter, and it tells the story of "a welterweight champ who punches his way back to glory after a tragedy."

DreamWorks picked up the project in December after The Fighter was such a box-office and award show success. The film is being produced by Alan and Peter Riche along with Sutter. Stuart Parr, Paul Rosenberg and Peter Schiff are serving as executive producers.

I think Fuqua would be a good fit as director of this film. I am still having trouble imagining Eminem as a boxer, but I may end up being surprised. What are your thoughts?
