E3 2011 First Impressions: GEARS OF WAR 3 Multiplayer

***It’s hard to give a full review on a game while at E3 because usually the demos that are available to play give us only around 10-15 minutes of gameplay time. So there will be a series of first impression reviews for the demos that I get to play while I’m here.***

Gears of War 3 kicks all kinds of Locust ass! The gears of War franchise is just a completely fun blood drenched franchise, and the third and final game in this story arc is coming to an end. Sure, I enjoy playing the campaign in these games, and I have a love hate relationship with the multiplayer action of the franchise. I love the hell out of it because it's extremely fun player against other people. It's makes things much more challenging, but I hate it because of how much it gets my blood boiling. Out of all the multiplayer games I play, Gears of War brings the insanity out in me.

I played the multiplayer mode at E3 and I had to do my best not to go nuts, but I thought I did pretty damn good. We only got to play on one map, and we blew through it pretty fast. This was definitely a tease demo, but it was a blasting going around blowing the hell out of the Cog team. The multiplayer mode we played was called Beast Mode where the player plays as the Locust, and devastates the COG members. Tokens are earned for killing the enemy, these tokens allow the player to upgrade their character to a stronger class of Locust. The Locust you get to choose from include Tickers, Wretches, Kantuses, Kantus Knights, Boomers, Digger Boomers, Butchers and Berserkers. I played with three different Locust, I noticed that the stronger bigger Locust move a bit slower, and I didn't really care for that.

As you know there are also some new female characters in the game, and I just have to say it was a little weird violently blowing their heads off. I know it's just a game, but still... it's a little sad.

It felt good to play Gears of War 3, I really had a great time playing it. I wish I would have had a little more time with it... like a couple hours. There's no doubt in my mind that I will be getting myself a copy of this game. Any fan of the Gears of War franchise should, and then we can meet on Xbox Live and blow each others heads off with a shotgun.

The game is set to be released on September 20th 2011 on the Xbox 360. I will see you on the blood soaked battlefield.

Here's the story synopsis for the game:

Eighteen months after the fall of Jacinto, the Gears have moved to the island of Vectes and are living aboard a converted aircraft carrier called the Raven's Nest. The COG has disbanded and the imulsion that powered Sera's cities has infected and mutated members of the Locust, causing them to become Lambent. The Lambent are evolving into a new enemy that threatens both the Locust and humanity. The Stranded also live on the island along with other survivors from E-Day.
