Kill Katie Malone was a movie that I’d never heard of until recently and I’m glad I got the opportunity to check it out! The first thing you notice is the familiar face of Dean Cain who appears in the horror/thriller.
The story follows a group of friends who purchase a box that supposedly has a ghost trapped inside it. The box is opened and people start to die and die horribly! As people keep getting knocked off by the angry little girl ghost the remaining survivors begin investigating where the box came from and what actually happened to the girl.
The friends find out what happened to the little girl and that over the decades whoever owned the box died horrible deaths so they decide to “un-own” her but it doesn’t work out so good. Needless to say, the girl was tortured and died a horrible death. Finally the daughter of a previous owner (Dean Cain) contacts them and offers to buy the box, all ends for the tortured group and now the girl is the owner who knows the box can’t be opened. Don't expect too many scenes with Cain as he's really not in the movie much but the scenes he's in are pretty cool. At the end of the movie we see Cain’s character walk into his daughters room and see what she has done, as they argue carelessly the box gets knocked to the floor and guess what, it opens, the door slams and bam, end of scene! We even get to see Hulk Hogan’s son, Nick Hogan get slaughterd by the angry ghost!
Director Carlos Ramos Jr. did a great job capturing the creepy elements throughout the film. The lighting really set the mood for certain scenes especially when the ghost would get close and show up it gets dark and there are some entertaining shots that are pulled off well. There’s also some psychological twists with certain scenes that don’t allow you to see what’s going on but you hear the people screaming or getting slammed up against a wall or even worse.
Bottom line is I highly recommend you check out this cool ghost story out, it’s original, the acting is great with plenty of blood, chills and special effects to please. It fits right in with other films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream. Get ready for a fresh original ghost story for a new generation! The movie is available on VOD, DVD/Theatrical Release unavailable at time of screening ! 3/5
