Warner Bros. buys rights to A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES
Warner Bros is set to bring Deborah Harkness' A Discovery of Witches to the big screen, according to Deadline. The studio just picked up the screen rights to the bestselling novel. The adaptation will be produced by Denise DiNovi and Allison Greenspan. The debut novel tells the story of "a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch and a mysterious manuscript that draws them together." the studio plans to hire a writer to adapt the story right away, and is eyed as a possible replacement for Harry Potter.
It will be hard for me to imagine anything being in the same leauge as Potter, but only time will tell. With the box office domination of that film, studios are scrambling to find the next big thing. What are your thoughts on this news?
