Frank Darabont steps down as WALKING DEAD showrunner

Frank Darabont, the creator, executive producer and director of AMC's smash hit The Walking Dead, is stepping down as showrunner of the series. This comes just after Darabont was in San Diego as part of the Comic-Con panel and the show was in the midst of filming it's second season in Georgia. Some are saying that Darabont is completely off the show, but Deadline is reporting that he may stay on the show in some capacity.

Darabont is reportedly growing tired of the daily commitement of running series such as this. It is not known if exec producer Glen Mazzara (The Shield) will move up to take on the series. He does have showrunning experience. No need to worry, this will not impact production on the show, which continues as scheduled. Season 2 of Walking Dead is slated to premiere Oct. 16.

When I heard this news today I was shocked. I was in attendance at the Comic-Con panel and Darabont did not seem to be vocal. He just seemed to have showed up. What are your thoughts on this news?
