David Chase will make his directorial debut and now the untitled film has a release date. Deadline reports that The Sopranos creator will make his writing and directorial debut during the heart of next year’s awards season — on October 19, 2012. The project has the working title of Twylight Zones, and it's being released under the Paramount Vantage label. Chase shot the movie earlier this year, and is now working on post-production.

The film is set in the suburbs of 1960's and tells the story of "a group of friends in New Jersey who form a garage band in order to pursue their rock dreams." Brad Garrett, Christopher McDonald, Molly Price, John Magaro, Lisa Lampanelli tar in the film. The film reunited Chase with his Emmy-winning Sopranos star James Gandolfini, who plays "a post-war, post-Depression Era parent who has worked hard to give his son everything he didn’t have but now feels some jealousy about the free-wheeling life the boy gets to experience." Chase grew up New Jersey teen during the 60s so it has a major personal connection for him. The film is produced by Mark Johnson (Rainman) along with Chase, and Steven Van Zandt, serves as executive producer and music supervisor.

There has been talk that the film may get a push in this year’s awards season, but Paramount has decided to hold it for next year. This sounds like a movie I would like to see. I loved Soprano's and currently live in New Jersey. What are your thoughts?
