FOOTLOOSE Coming to DVD/Blu-Ray This March!

Footloose, the 2011 remake of the Kevin Bacon-starring 1984 dance movie, is coming to DVD/Blu-Ray on March 6th! While I'm sure most dismissed this film as a horrible idea, I have a particular connection to this film because I live in the same town--Memphis, TN--as the director, Craig Brewer! We've met and talked, and he is a very nice man. I know it's not a geek movie, but it's been reviewed on GeekTyrant Weekly.

The acting in the film is incredible. They are not Glee rejects or bland, unimaginative line-readers. These are quality actors who deeply care about making their performances real and believable. Like his extremely light and athletic counterpart, Kenny Wormald will be springing from near obscurity to the top of the spotlight. He is much better than Zac Efron and Chase Crawford would ever have been. Likewise, Julianne Hough's performance personifies the vivacious Southern bad girl who falls hard for the boy from Boston. She is definitely one to watch. What more can be said about Dennis Quaid? I love his films - especially Innerspace, The Rookie and Great Balls of Fire. His role of Rev. Shaw Moore is actually more credible today that John Lithgow's was in 1984. Because Quaid chooses to play an ACTUAL Baptist preacher rather than the well-known and well-derided screaming pastor stereotype. He adds emotionality to what was once a one-dimensional character. Not to say Lithgow isn't a quality actor, but - to me - he just went straight for the stereotype.  It's a sweet, sweet movie, and if you have a date, I'm sure they'll love it!
