J.J. Abrams Adapting BEASTLIES into a Film and Animated Series

More cool news from our friends at Latino Review. They have revealed that J.J. Abrams has acquired the rights to the indie toy line Beastlies, and he plans on adapting them into a feature film and animated series.

A couple of months ago it was reported that Abrams was one of several filmmakers to produce an animated film over at Paramount Pictures. It's not really specified in the report, but I think it's safe to assume that this might be what he's working on.

Here's a little information Beastlies for you:

Leslie Levings is the creator of the Beastlies! Each Beastlie is made individually by hand. Leslie started sculpting little creatures when she was 10, but took a break through high school and college to pursue photography and writing. None of those things were ever as fun as creating tiny characters out of clay, though, so now she’s back to doing that full time. Leslie is originally from Kansas City and currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and one too many cats.

There's no story behind the characters, so it seems like Abams has free reign to create whatever he wants out of these colorful little monsters.

Are you familiar with Beastlies? And what do you think about Abrams possibly developing them into an animated movie and TV series?

Here's a video showing how Levings makes these things!
