Paul Thomas Anderson Wants to Make an AIRPLANE Type Comedy

Paul Thomas Anderson is a fantastic director and storyteller that has given us films such as Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, and most recently, The Master. He's not really known for doing comedy, but when he was asked about it in a recent interview with MovieHole, he seemed like he was up for the task, and says it would be something along the lines of the classic comedy Airplane.

You mean like full blown comedy? Soon hopefully.  I have to write it.  It sounds daunting. [laughter]

I’d like to make a film like Airplane. That never gets old. Or Ted.  It was a big hit. Why? Because It’s great. Movies that are that big a hit are never f*cking bad. I mean, there’s no such… You know, people aren’t that stupid, that movie’s a hit because it’s hilarious. I hope [Seth MacFarlane] makes another film.

And I hope that PTA makes a full-blown comedy, because that would be great! The closest thing to a comedy he has made is Punch-Drunk Love, which I really liked. I'm extremely curious to see what kind of comedy PTA would make! I hope he follows through with it. Would you like to see him make a comedy?
