Movie Review: GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
What are you expecting from from Mark Neveldine and Brain Taylor's version of Ghost Rider? If you've seen the trailer and film clips from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, then you know exactly what to expect. If what you saw in those trailers and clips entertained you, then you will most definitely enjoy the the movie. If you are expecting something more from what has been shown, you're not going to get it. The story, characters, acting, and script are awesomely absurd, and that's what I liked about the movie.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is just as insanely silly and action-packed as it looks. The movie plays out like a maddening live-action cartoon. The biggest success of the directors in making this movie is they didn't take this character seriously. That portrayed the character and story for what it is... a guy with a flaming skull head trying to save people and destroy them. You just have to let yourself go when watching this movie, and understand the kind of movie you're watching. If you're going in to criticize it, then you'll find plenty of ammo to load your gun with. But if your looking to be mindlessly entertained by a wildly made movie, then that's what you'll get.
I had a a great time watching the film regardless of its faults. It was simple yet incredibly fun. I usually hate watching Nicolas Cage in the films he makes, but I couldn't help but enjoy watching him play Ghost Rider this time around because it was just such a insanely over-the-top performance! I can't even describe it, he just gets so crazy wild! I don't think I've ever seen Cage like this before. There's one scene in particular where he's trying to hold back the Rider from coming out while interrogating a guy, and it was just jacked. He must have been on speed while filming that scene.
I absolutely loved this portrayal of Ghost Rider; it was so much better than the first film. They turned him into a nightmarishly awesome badass. I loved the look and style of the Rider, and there were a lot more hellish details added to make him explode on screen.
The directors that made the movie are the same ones that directed the Crank movies, and those guys are wildly deranged filmmakers, which made them the perfect fit for Ghost Rider. They are what this character needed.
The movie obviously isn't for everyone, there's plenty of fanboy and fangirls out there that are not going to like this movie for one reason or another. But, I'm going to go ahead and recommend that you go see it because I think most of you will have a fun time watching it, especially if you know what you're getting yourself into. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
