Casting Roundup: Fassbender Climbs MOUNTAIN and Irons Joins BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

Movie Michael Fassbender by

In today's casting roundup we have some casting news about Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First ClassPrometheus) and Jeremy Irons (The Borgias, Margin Call).

Fassbender only seems to be in every movie these days--I am surprised he has time to sit down. Variety reports that the actor is in early talks to star in Gerardo Naranjo's romantic drama The Mountain Between Us.

The movie is based on Charles Martin's novel, which tells the story of "two strangers who survive a plane crash in the Colorado woods and are forced to rely on one another for survival, eventually falling in love." Fassbender would star as Ben Trace, "a doctor and avid climber who uses his skills to transport an injured writer named Ashley down a mountain in harsh weather." J. Mills Goodloe adapted the novel, and Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, and Jenno Topping are producing the project for Chernin Entertainment. This would be the first studio film for Naranjo, who previously directed Miss Bala.

THR reports that Irons is in final talks to join Beautiful Creatures, based on the adaptation of the young adult novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. He would join a cast that includes Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Thomas Mann, and relative newcomers Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert.

The movie will tell "a coming-of-age story about two star-crossed teens -- one a local boy, the other a mysterious new girl -- who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town." Irons will play the role of Macon Ravenwood, "the mysterious and recluse uncle of Englert’s character named Lena." Beautiful Creatures was adapted and will be directed by Richard LaGravanese

Fassbender is a solid actor, and I think he makes some great decisions on films. His roles are diverse, which make them more memorable for me. Irons is a phenomenal character actor that will do wonderfully in this role. Which of these films are you looking forward to seeing more?
