District 9's Sharlto Copley is a very busy guy these days! He was recently confirmed to be playing the villain in Spike Lee's Old Boy, and he was also cast in a crazy sounding thriller called Open Grave. It doesn't stop there, according to a recent report, the actor is in negotiations to take on the lead male role in Disney's Sleeping Beauty film Maleficent.
He will join Angelina Jolie in the live-action movie, and according to Deadline, he will take on the part of King Stefan, Aurora's father. The movie is basically a prequel to Sleeping Beauty, and will tell the story of why Maleficent cursed the princess in the first place.
It's being directed by production designer Robert Stromberg, and it's scheduled to be released on March 14th, 2014. I love how this movie is shaping up so far, especially the cast which also may or may not include Elle Fanning as the princess. It's pretty easy for me to imagine Copley in the role of a medieval king. I know we have a long ways to go with this movie, but I'm looking forward to it.
