Sean Bean To Star in DEVIL'S PEAK Film Trilogy

TrailerMovie Sean Bean by Joey Paur

Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean is set to star in the big screen adaptation of author Deon Meyer’s suspense novel series Devil’s Peak. This will be a trilogy of films in which he will play a detective character named Benny Griessel.

According to the book description, the story is a gritty suspense thriller "about revenge, forgiveness, and the race to catch a trained killer." This sounds like it will make for a great film series, and the fact that Bean will be its star is pretty awesome.

Here's a description of the book:

A young woman makes a terrible confession to a priest. An honorable man takes his own revenge for an unspeakable tragedy. An aging inspector tries to get himself sober while taking on the most difficult case of his career. From this beginning, Deon Meyer weaves a story of astonishing complexity and suspense, as Inspector Benny Griessel faces off against a dangerous vigilante who has everything on his side, including public sympathy.

A gruesome abuse case has hit the newsstands, and one man has taken it upon himself to stand up for the children of Cape Town. When the accused is found stabbed through the heart by spear, it's only the beginning of a string of bloody murders - and of a dangerous dilemma for detective Griessel. The detective is always just one step behind as someone slays the city's killers. But the paths of Griessel and the avenger collide when a young prostitute lures them both into a dangerous plan - and the two find themselves with a heart-stopping problem that no system of justice could ever make right.

Producer Michael Murphey (District 9, Dredd) had this to say about the film in a statement,

The Deon Meyer trilogy will be a world-class series of films set in one of the most exhilarating places on earth - Cape Town, South Africa. It has been demonstrated repeatedly lately that South Africa is the first class filming destination. The U.S. dollar, the Pound and the Euro go further in South Africa than just about anywhere else in the world.

The film is scheduled to start shooting in South Africa this September. Do you think this will make for a good film series?
