Beautiful Imagery from Sam Raimi's OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Oz: The Great and Powerful got a very positive response from the Comic-Con crowd when Disney unveiled the film's first footage. A lot of people were comparing the style of it to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which makes sense as both films used the same production designer, Robert Stromberg, who is also working on Disney's Maleficent. I can see the design similarities, but I also see Raimi's touch added to it. I'm excited about this movie, and I think it's going to be another solidly entertaining Raimi film.

Disney has released a collection of photos from the film showing off some of the beautiful imagery from the movie. These were all seen in the trailer, but these are in a higher resolution. Check out the trailer at the bottom of the post if you haven't seen it yet! You can also click on any of the images to enlarge.

Oz The Great and Powerful imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is set to be released on March 8th, 2013.
