Emile Hirsch and Joaquin Phoenix Up for John Belushi Biopic

A biopic based on comedian John Belushi has been in the works for over three years, with Hangover director Todd Phillips set to direct it at one point. Phillips has since dropped out as the director, but is still attached to produce it. The movie is now set to be directed by its screenwriter, Steve Conrad, who has previously written The Weather Man and Ben Stiller's upcoming movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. This will be his first directing gig, and it should be a good one. 

The filmmakers are looking to cast an actor to play Belushi in the movie, and according to THR, the director has met with Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Adam Devine (Comedy Central’s Workaholics) to play Belushi, and Joaquin Phoenix's name also has surfaced as being up for the role. 

All of these choices are very interesting, and they are all very talented actors. It would be interesting to see any of them take on the role. The director is also looking at Nelson Franklin (Veep, New Girl) to play play Dan Aykroyd, who was one of Belushi’s best friends. 

The comedian died at the age of 33 from a drug overdose at the Chateau Marmont in 1982. According to the report, the biopic hopes to tell the story of a man that embodied both the glory and the tragedy of the American dream as it focuses on Belushi at the height of his fame.
