Jeremy Renner is set to star in a new CIA thriller called Kill The Messenger. The movie is actually based on the tragic true story of a journalist named Gary Webb, "a San Jose Mercury News reporter who committed suicide after being the target of a smear campaign when he linked the CIA to a scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and import cocaine into California." The movie is being directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland Series), from a script written by Peter Landesman.
This sounds like it will be an intense and heavy film, one the CIA is sure to not support. Renner is a great actor that has been taking on some fun and different roles. His most recent film was Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters--not his best work, but still a fun movie. A film like Kill the Messenger should put him back on track.
