Justin Lin to Direct New Action Thriller

Movie Justin Lin by Joey Paur

Warner Bros. has won a bidding war for the rights to an upcoming untitled action thriller novel by Patrick Lee who wrote The Breach. The studio has brought on Justin Lin (Fast Five) to adapt the book for the big screen.

According to Deadline the book is the start of a series that features "an ex-special operative named Sam Dryden. In the character-driven thriller, Dryden runs into a mysterious young girl who is not quite what she seems, and he embarks on a journey to keep her safe from a powerful government agent intent on hunting her down."

I'm actually looking forward to seeing Lin direct a movie that isn't part of the Fast and Furious franchise. There's no word on when he'll get around to making this one. He's still an executive producer on the Highlander reboot, he's developing a movie called Subdivision at Universal, and a film about the L.A. Riots which is set up at Imagine. He's also attached to direct a big screen adaptation of Lone Wolf and Cub, as well as the comic play Chinglish. I'm sure he'll also direct Fast and Furious 7.

Lin has got a lot on his plate, but this new action thriller seems like something that would fit in with his directing style. I'm looking forward to seeing him branch out into other film genres, and it looks like that's what he's doing.
