Benedict Cumberbatch Studied Terrorism for STAR TREK Villain Role

Every actor kind of does their own thing to prepare for the roles they play in the movies. Benedict Cumberbatch wanted to get so deep into his villainous John Harrison role in Star Trek Into Darkness that he went out and studied terrorism. He looks incredible in the film, and from what we've seen, I think it's safe to say that he's going to steal the show. In a recent interview with MTV the actor explained,

[Look at] real social history and present history, everything that's going on: uprisings, people who are trying to spread democracy or fight their cause, not necessarily through political means ... he is a terrorist, and sadly, that's part of the fabric of our modern world. You don't need to look far to research that one.

Cumberbatch went on to say that he studied "certain terrorist groups in the past" so that he could see how they operated. He also went on to say,

'It was important to me to ground him in a reality that's based more on his story than, say, a parallel in the real world. What should certainly be chilling are the parallels to the modern world,' he added cryptically.

This guy has an incredible career ahead of him, and I'm excited to see who this villain actually ends up being in the upcoming Star Trek movie.
