WILL SMITH Gives Reason For Turning Down DJANGO UNCHAINED

Jamie Foxx did a hell of a job as Django in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. It was a great example of awesome character development. But before Foxx donned the cowboy boots Tarantino wanted none other than Will Smith to be the former slave turned gun slinging bounty hunter.

While promoting his new film After Earth, Smith told Entertainment Weekly his reason for turning down the project:

Django wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead….I was like, ‘No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!

He went on to say what he thought of the film,

I thought it was brilliant. Just not for me.

Does it seem like his ego got in the way or was it just difference of opinion on story progression?
