Jim Carrey to Star in RICKY STANICKY

Movie Jim Carrey by Joey Paur

It seems like Jim Carrey's acting career is about to take off again. I think Kick-Ass 2 is going to give his career a much needed boost. I was hoping he'd start choosing better movie roles, and it's been announced that he's set to star in a new comedy called Ricky Stanicky, which sounds like another good project for him.

The movie will re-team the actor with Steve Oedekerk, who wrote Bruce Almighty and wrote and directed Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. According to the report, the script is described as "an ensemble comedy in the vein of The Hangover and begins when three teens pull a prank and burn down a house in their neighborhood. They create a fake person to take the blame: Ricky Stanicky. Twenty years later, it turns out the three guys have been using this alibi to get out of every uncomfortable situation in life. When their girlfriends and wives force them to set up a meeting with Stanicky, they hire an out-of-work actor to play the part."

I love the concept of this, and I could see this being a terrific comedy. Hopefully they can fill the cast out with a few other solid comedic actors.

The movie was actually picked up by Summit Entertainment in 2010 with James Franco attached to play Stanicky. He ended up dropping out, and at one point Joaquin Phoenix almost joined the project. Things have been quiet on the project until today.
