Joss Whedon Teases More AVENGERS 2 Goodness and Talks Thanos

Even though we won't see The Avengers 2 until 2015, it's always nice to hear director Joss Whedon talk about it and tease some things we should look forward to seeing. In Whedon's most recent interview with Desde Hollywood, he discusses Thanos' role in the movie, and how he's saving him for the big finale...

Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful, he is not someone you can just trot out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him to be threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale. He is definitely a part of what I've got going on. The thing about the Avengers is that they are very powerful, but they're not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment.

The site that did the interview goes on to speculate that this could mean Thanos might not be defeated until a third Avengers film, which would make sense. We'll never really know until we see the movie! Whedon also was asked whether Robert Downey Jr. would return to reprise his role as Tony Stark, and this was his response,

I am not the guy who has to worry about him being replaced. He is Iron Man at this point. When I heard that he was cast I knew that something had just changed, and I usually don't know stuff like that. I was like 'Now we are in a new phase.' The way he embodies it… I love working with him. He is so perfect for it, Shane captures it so perfectly in this movie.

I want him to play it forever. The great thing is that he has a flying metal suit. So it's not like those Charles Bronson or Roger Moore movies where you're like 'Dude, you can barely stand.' He’s got some fight in him. At the same time, if Robert decides to hang it up, he has a perfectly good excuse.

I can't wait to see what Whedon is cooking up for us in the sequel. In the mean time, we've got Thor: The Dark World coming out and Captain: America: The Winter Soldier, which according to Anthony Mackie is like an Avengers 1.5 movie. While talking to Moviefone Mackie explained,

First, I’ll say that being a part of it is great. I think that Marvel has it down to a science and they’ve been very deliberate about what they want and what they don’t want out in the world. And they’re very focused on timelines as far as releases and stuff. This movie, Captain America, has kind of become Avengers 1.5; if you look at the cast they’ve put together, if you look at the number of characters that are in this movie. I mean, it’s a huge number of superheroes and characters. The basic idea is that you have Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon that get together to take down the Winter Soldier.

The Avengers 2 comes out on May 1st, 2015. To read all of our Avengers 2 news up until this point click here!
