Justin Lin Will Not Direct FAST AND FURIOUS 7

Fast and Furious director Justin Lin has been directing the films in this franchise since Tokyo Drift. Since he's taken the reins the movies have been getting really entertaining and the audience has been growing. Fast Five was great, and Fast and Furious 6 looks like it's going to kick all kinds of ass. The franchise is blowing up, but Lin has let Universal Pictures know that he will not be returning to direct the seventh installment of the franchise.

The reason he will not be directing it is that the studio is looking to push it into production fast, and Lin doesn't feel he has enough time to prep for it. He'd have to start working on it while he was finishing up Fast 6 in post-production, and according to THR he felt the rush would not result in his best work. "One insider says that franchise exhaustion also was a factor."

He's been making these Fast and Furious films for years, so I don't blame him for wanting to take a break from making them. The question is, who will the studio hire to take his place? Is there anyone else you'd like to see direct Fast 7? I'm wondering if Vin Diesel will step into those shoes, I think if anyone could take it on he'd be a good choice. Directing it would also be a great stepping stone for him because it could be his first major feature film.
