Details on JUPITER ASCENDING's Innovative Development

The Wachowskis are currently in production on their next incredible sounding film project Jupiter Ascending. I enjoy the films that this team creates. They are always pushing the boundaries of filmmaking, not only in terms of storytelling, but also technically. It sounds like they are taking things to a new level of innovation with this next film. In a recent interview with Collider, one of the film's stars, Channing Tatum, revealed some interesting details about how they are doing stuff that's never been done before. Before we get to that, here's a little reminder about what the film is about,

Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

It's basically an epic sci-fi retelling of Snow White, and here's what Tatum had to say about what they are doing to bring the story to life.

"We are breaking ground on—I mean it’s a tough shoot. We're doing stuff that’s never been done, inside the camera, in the CG world, and the physical stuff. There's very little, if not no, digital stuntmen in the movie. All the stuff is really real, and it’s been hard figuring it out because they don't like doing anything that's been done before. So we're definitely doing some new stuff, so hopefully everybody likes it. And it's fun, it's got some cheek to it. It's a cheeky movie a little bit."

There's a lot of interesting stuff revealed here. I like that there are going to be no digital stuntmen in the film, which is something that we see in almost every big budget movie with big action set pieces these days. I'm always excited to see what the Wachowskis do with their films visually, because it's always awesome and different.

The film also stars Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings), Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables), Douglas Booth (LOL), Tuppence Middleton (The Lady Vanishes), Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas), James D’Arcy (Hitchcock), and Tim Pigott-Smith (Alice in Wonderland).

The movie comes out July 25th, 2014!
