Joss Whedon Initially Wasn't Sold on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Joss Whedon admits in a recent interview that when he found out that Marvel was moving forward with a big screen adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy he wasn't sold on the idea. It wasn't until he found out James Gunn would direct it that he realized the potential the movie had. Collider recently caught up with the director, and this is what he had to say about the movie,

"It seemed out there to me [initially, the idea] came from Kevin Fiege. I sort of went 'I don't know about this'. Then they brought on James Gunn, and as soon as they said James, the movie started to make sense to me in a away that it hadn't. I was like 'oh this isn't a guy that's gonna chase Star Wars, he's gonna make a James Gunn movie. And James' first thing was 'oh I love Rocket, it's all the raccoon.' People were like, 'really, a raccoon?' He was like 'the raccoon is the heart'. And knowing that, I felt very safe. And casting Chris Pratt. I was just there before they started production, and seeing all the designs and stuff... I got really jealous. I was like, 'why can't I make this movie?' I really got turned 180 on that one."

From the very beginning I've been saying that Rocket Raccoon is going to steal the show. You'll see, he'll be everyone's favorite character. One day I'd love to see Rocket and Hulk team up in a movie because that would be amazing!

Guardians of the Galaxy started shooting on Monday, so I imagine we'll start seeing some set photos leak out soon. Hopefully they will have a few thing to show us from the film at Comic-Con. This movie is going to turn out so freakin' cool!

It stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Karen GillanBenico Del Toro, and Glenn Close. The movie will be released on August 1st, 2014.
