Jennifer Lawrence Joins THE RULES OF INHERITANCE

It's been awesome to see Jennifer Lawrence blow up as an actress since Winter's Bone. I remember seeing that movie and thinking that she's going to be the next big star. Now look at her! Making all kinds of great movies and winning an Oscar.

The actress is now set to star in a film called The Rules Of Inheritance, which is being directed by Susanne Bier, who just made the film Serena with Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. The script for the film was written by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame).

The film is based on Claire Bidwell Smith’s memoir about "a young woman who loses her family, but finds herself in the process." Sounds like another one of those films that could earn Lawrence another Oscar nomination. Here's a more detailed description of the book:

A coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating.

In this astonishing debut, Claire Bidwell Smith, an only child, is just fourteen years old when both of her charismatic parents are diagnosed with cancer. What follows is a coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating. As Claire hurtles towards loss she throws herself at anything she thinks might help her cope with the weight of this harsh reality: boys, alcohol, traveling, and the anonymity of cities like New York and Los Angeles. By the time she is twenty-five years old they are both gone and Claire is very much alone in the world.

Claire's story is less of a tragic tale and more of a remarkable lesson on how to overcome some of life's greatest hardships. Written with suspense and style, and bursting with love and adventure, The Rules of Inheritance vividly captures the deep grief and surprising light of a young woman forging ahead on a journey of loss that humbled, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

The movie is being produced by FilmNation’s Glen Basner and Aaron Ryder, and here's a statement from them:

We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, Abi Morgan and Bruce Cohen. We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with.
