Steven Spielberg to Produce THE GRAPES OF WRATH

Movie Steven Spielberg by Joey Paur

DreamWorks is in talks to develop a new feature adaptation of John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath, and Steven Spielberg is tentatively attached to produce it.

I love this novel, and I couldn't be more excited that it is getting a new big screen adaptation. This may surprise you, but I've actually been waiting and hoping that this would happen. The book was previously adapted in 1940 by director John Ford, and that is also a great film that you should watch if for some reason you haven't yet.

The story follows a poor family of tenant farmers forced to move off its land in Oklahoma because of drought and hopeless economic conditions. "Spurred by the promise of high wages for farm workers, the Joads head to California, but are beaten down by poverty and hunger in the Great Depression."

The news comes from Deadline, who says that Spielberg is only interested in producing the movie. He will not direct it, but I'm sure he'll bring someone on board that has the talent to turn this book into another classic film. I can't wait to see how this turns out!
