Universal Pictures' Dracula Movie Has a New Title

Movie Dracula by Joey Paur

Universal Pictures has announced a new title for their upcoming Dracula movie. It will be called Dracula Untold. It was previously called Dracula: Year Zero, and it stars Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Zach McGowan, Samantha Barks, Thor Kristjansson, and Art Parkinson. The film is being directed by Gary Shore (Wolverine Vs. The Hand), and it's currently in production in Belfast.

There's not much known about the story other than it is "a mix of mythology and true history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel." In a previous interview Evans talked about the movie, saying,

"[Don't think] of the Dracula that Bram Stoker created. The Dracula that I'm going to be portraying is the origin of Dracula. It's about the man that became Dracula. Don't be too quick to think he's a bad guy. I'm just going to say that."

Before Shore came on board, Alex Proyas was going to direct the movie, and when he was talking about the story he said that it will...

"put the whole legend on its head in every conceivable way and comes out with something that is both a kind of an ode to Bram Stoker’s original Dracula, in that it’s kind of a prequel to that, but it also redefines the character to such an extent that I found it quite exciting, so that is very much a kind of reinvention of that character and it’s why I got excited about it.
It's Prince Vlad of Transylvania in the 14th century, and to save his kingdom and his family he takes his first step into darkness, It's his evolution into the monster that Dracula became."

Dracula Untold hits theaters October 3rd, 2014.
