3 Directors up for MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie

Sony Pictures is still looking to get their live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie into development. Studios have been trying to get this movie made for years, and it looks like they are ready to try again. According to The Wrap, there are three directors who have emerged as frontrunners for the directing gig, those are Mike Cahill (Another Earth, I Origins), Chris McKay (The LEGO Movie editor), and Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid reboot).

Out of the choices here, I think Cahill is the most talented. I had a chance to see his I, Origins at Sundance, and it was simply mind-blowing. I would love to see him tackle something like Masters of the Universe. He would be my choice, but chances are they will go with Zwart because he worked with the studio before on rebooting The Karate Kid, and it made over $359 million worldwide. He also has worked on big budget special effects heavy movies such as Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which sucked, but it was also a Sony Pictures film.

I really hope whomever they hire has the ability to deliver a movie that He-Man fans can be proud of. I think Cahill could pull it off brilliantly. The most recent draft of the script was written by Terry Rossio, which is kind of scary because he's the guy who wrote Disney's terrible adaptation of The Lone Ranger.

I really want to be excited for this movie, but I'll wait to see who they get to direct it first. I'm just happy that G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu isn't attached to it anymore. He would have destroyed it.
