3 New DC Characters Announced For SUPERGIRL Series

TV Supergirl by Joey Paur

Some new details have come to light regarding the upcoming Supergirl TV series coming to CBS. While talking about the series to the Television Critics Association, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that they will include at least three well-known characters from the DC universe into Supergirl's roster. Those characters include Red Tornado, General Lane, and Non. They will show up within the first nine episodes.

The news comes from THR, who says Lucy Lane's (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) father, General Sam Lane, "would come to town 'with an agenda,'; hero Red Tornado; and Non, a Kryptonian villain featured in Donner's Superman II who producers said would have a 'slightly different take on the character'."

Producer Greg Berlanti was also in attendance, and he explained how Richard Donner's Superman films were a huge inspiration in the development of this project. According to the report, he grew up "worshipping" Donner's Christopher Reeve films and hopes his show "would capture the same magic, joy, wonder and fun, though the iconic superhero is not currently slated to appear on screen."

Superman will play a part in the series, but as we already heard, he will play more of a background character that we'll never really see. There are also no crossovers currently being planned with Arrow or The Flash.

I'm curious to see what Berlanti and his team are going to take this series. The pilot episode has gotten mixed reviews by those who have seen it. One thing everyone seems to think, though, is that they series has potential as a whole, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens and how audiences react.

Supergirl is played by Melissa Benoist, and it's set to premiere on October 26th. It will be interesting to see what other DC characters will end up popping up in the series.
