BASTILLE DAY Trailer: Idris Elba is Reckless and Irresponsible
With the rumors that Daniel Craig might be out as James Bond, here's a nice opportunity for fan favorite replacement Idris Elba to show the people at EON Productions that he has what it takes to step into the role. Elba stars in a new action thriller called Bastille Day, in which he plays a CIA operative who teams with an American pickpocket (Richard Madden, who played Robb Stark on Game of Thrones) in order to combat a conspiracy in the police force. It admittedly looks like a pretty typical action movie, but Elba is imminently watchable; he's in true badass mode here, so despite the generic nature of the plot, I can't deny that I'm intrigued.
Once intended for Taken director Pierre Morel, James Watkins (The Woman in Black) ended up directing. The film was originally going to open in the U.K. this month, but it's been delayed until April 22nd because of the Paris attacks. No U.S. release date has been set yet, but we'll keep you updated.
Michael Mason (Richard Madden, Game Of Thrones) is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself in the hands of the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar (Idris Elba, Avengers: Age Of Ultron), the field agent on the case, soon realizes that Michael is just a pawn in a much bigger game and is also his best asset to uncover a large-scale criminal conspiracy in the heart of the police force.
Going against commands, Briar recruits Michael to help quickly track down the source of the corruption. As a 24hr chase ensues, the unlikely duo discover they are both targets and must rely upon each other in order to take down a common enemy.
