I'm excited to tell you that Bong Joon-Ho's post apocalyptic thriller Snowpiercer has finally been given a release date, and that date is June 27th, 2014 in limited theaters. We've been reporting news on this movie for such a long time, and it's great that we'll actually be able to see it!
As previously reported, the Weinsteins bought U.S. rights to the film back in 2012 based on a script and and some test footage. The deal they made included a wide release, but the director turned in a film that was over two and half hours long. The Weinsteins wanted the director to cut the film down, but he wouldn't. As a result, the Weinsteins didn't want to release it.
Just a few weeks ago, the two parties recently came to an agreement that allowed the movie to be released in theaters. Basically, the director gets to keep his cut of his film, but instead of a wide release, it will be a limited release with a roll out.
The film stars Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Ed Harris, John Hurt, and Octavia Spencer. The movie has also been getting amazing reviews internationally.
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
