Bret McKenzie Hired to Write Songs For Disney's BOB THE MUSICAL

A few years back, we reported that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, directors of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, were in talks to helm Bob The Musical. It's a Disney movie about a man who bumps his head and begins to hear everyone's innermost thoughts as a musical. His life actually becomes a musical.

Well, a lot has happened in the intervening years, but the movie is still on its way. It's just changed hands a bit. Most recently, Academy Award-winning writer and Flight of the Conchords actor Bret McKenzie has been brought on to work on the songs for the movie.

The director currently attached to the movie is Michel Hazanavicius, the man responsible for the Academy Award-winning film The Artist. There are rumors that Tom Cruise is in talks about taking the lead role in the film. You might have heard of some of the obscure movies that Cruise guy has done. And Michael Chabon, who co-wrote Spider-Man 2 and John Carter, is on board to write the screenplay.

Altogether, things seem to be building up to something great. I loved The Artist. It managed to do so much with no words. It truly was outstanding, and the music for the Muppets movies have been some of my favorite music to listen to while driving. As for Tom Cruise? I think it would be nice to see him return to a comedy role again. Some of my favorite things Cruise does is comedy as seen in Tropic Thunder as well as Rock of Ages. Seeing him in another musical would be great too.

Disney certainly knows what they're doing, and if things continue to progress like this, I can only hope that more comedy musicals from the studio make a comeback.
